Edited by Arlene Mejorado and Jessy V. Castillo
Óptica is a photo publication that brings into close contact the beautiful and critical work of lens-based artists and photographers creating images from a complex personhood and distinct vantage point. The project is designed to share these works with the hands and homes of our communities.
Centering the work of Black, Indigenous, queer, gender-non-conforming, and of color artists, Óptica is designed to gather conversations around visual languages across geographies and genres. The publication honors image makers who are reinterpreting a lens-based practice and are shaping new trajectories with the medium. The thoughtful selection of work by the editors helps to broaden opportunities in distribution and engagement with the artists’ work and to push beyond the dominant publishing circuit.
All funds support the sustainability of Óptica + ESTE.
